The Omaha District Council has groups called Conferences in 38 Catholic parishes in the metro area,as well as one in Norfolk, three in Columbus, and one in Valley. When a client is referred to the Conference whose parish area they live within, whenever possible, members of the Conference make a home visit to learn of the specific need that prompted the client to contact the Society and to ascertain any other ways they might aid the client. Types of assistance often provided by the Conferences include: assistance with past due rent or mortgage payments to prevent eviction; payment of past due utility bills to prevent shut-off of heat, lights, and water, or to have the utilities turned back on;or the purchase of much needed furniture through the St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Stores. Because each case is unique, there are multitudes of other ways that conferences may assist their clients, often financially, but always with emotional and spiritual support also. |
When Jesus saw the crowds, He had compassion on them, because they were poor and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. He said to His disciples, "The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to sendout workers into His harvest field." Matthew 9:36-38 |
