                         Message From Our President

Dear Friends of St. Vincent de Paul,

I hope this message finds you all in good health and fully engaged in a
prosperous 20 I O.  As the calendar flips to a new year and a new
decade, it makes me think beyond the year that just passed or the year
that lies ahead. Over the past ten years, our Society has seen many
changes.  We began operating our food pantry at the 21 st &
Leavenworth store just prior to the end of the 20th century.   We
regrettably closed our family shelter in downtown Omaha.   We said
goodbye to many friends who shared their living Vincentian spirituality
with us, and said hello to new faces as volunteers and members.   We
opened new Conferences in more parishes, and closed a few whose
time had come to move on.   We created a web site and began to
incorporate more technology into our operations.   We helped the poor
until our bank account was nearly depleted, then found ways to invest
and raise funds so that our work could go on.    We celebrated 100 years
of service in the Omaha area and wrote a new strategic plan to take us
further into the 21 st century.   Whether the events were happy and joyous
or sorrowful and painful, our Society grew stronger through each step.

Our work doesn't always make the front page or the evening news or even the
church bulletin, but it never stops.   Whether it's a snowy Christmas week, or a
blistering summer day,  the Society of St. Vincent de Paul carries on its work
day in and day out, decade in and decade out.   We look forward to the
challenges ahead, for they serve to make us sharper and more attentive to the
needs of those we serve.   We invite you to be with us as we work to grow in
unity, to love and serve those most vulnerable among us, and to meet the New
  Year with faith and humility.

  Serving in Hope,                                                      OMAHA METRO
