At the Society of St. Vincent de Paul in Omaha, financial support from the community is critical to helping us carry out our mission:
Inspired by Gospel values, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul is an international Catholic volunteer organization dedicated to helping all people in need, regardless of faith.
We believe that helping people starts at home. Any contribution, large or small, helps us help our neighbors in need throughout the Omah area. Your support ensures that the

Ozanam Outreach Program provides help where there was none
Shawna worked up to 70 hours per week to care for her family of four. Then she was laid off after a dispute with a coworker over issues she felt were racially motivated.
The break in her income while she hunted for new employment left Shawna strapped for cash and threatened with eviction from their home. She needed $700 but was happy to get anything. However, she lives in an area of Omaha that does not currently have a Saint Vincent de Paul parish conference.
Until recently, we would have informed Shawna that we don’t have coverage in her area and suggest other community resources to call. The SVdP help-line volunteer knew this wasn’t enough for this family, and so she called our new Ozanam Outreach team to make their first visit. Two Vincentian volunteers, Gary and Diane, met with Shawna, talked to the landlord, worked out a plan, and sent money to the landlord to help Shawna get caught up. It’s a start. It made a big difference to Shawna and her kids.
And so began Ozanam Outreach.
People sincerely are trying to make ends meet, and we hope to help them stay in their homes, continue their lives, and yes, probably continue to struggle. But they are fighters.
As a parish-based lay Catholic organization, the Society currently has conferences in 30 parishes in the Omaha area. This leaves about 30 other parishes that may or may not have human outreach programs. Our central help line receives about 400 calls per month and about one-third come from areas currently not served by SVdP conferences.
Two Omaha zip codes were identified with the most calls from people we were not able to serve. Their needs are so great. People sincerely are trying to make ends meet, and we hope to help them stay in their homes, continue their lives, and yes, probably continue to struggle. But they are fighters. They want the best for their families. They won’t give up.
Our Ozanam Outreach team goes forward and meets with another desperate mother each week while we continue to look for funds to help even more.
Your contribution will help folks like Shawna. To rephrase a popular analogy: She didn’t need to be taught to fish, she needed help to patch the hole in the boat before it sank! Keep this good mother in your prayers please. And let us know if you can help.
